Costume Design - Textiles

Kent State University; Spring 2023

Instructor: Michelle Souza

A graduate level course for costume design with an emphasis on textiles.

Intimate Apparel

Key elements I played with were: 1. The idea of Mrs. Van Buren, Mayme, and Esther having a "matching" set of corsets. Van Buren’s is the completed corset and Mayme’s and Esther’s are made from the leftovers. 2. The smoking jacket was unconsciously made for Mr. Marks and thus it fits him and not George. 3. Esther's dream of George from Act 1 is not what we get from him in Act 2.

Costume Design - Research Methods

Kent State University; Fall 2022

Instructor: Michelle Souza

A graduate level course for costume design with an emphasis on research methods.

Cyrano

For this project, I really wanted to focus on the correct historical shapes for each character. We were required to complete ten renderings and though I could have spent all ten on the lead characters I wanted to make sure I explored the non-lead characters as well.

Costume Design - Dance, Musicals, & Opera

Ohio University; Spring 2022

Instructor: Sarah Jo Monaghan

A graduate level course for costume design that focused on how to design for Dance, Musicals, & Operas.

Project 1 - Swan Lake

For this project, we were required to design three versions of the Black Swan and White Swan from Swan Lake. The dance styles included: Traditional Ballet, Modern Dance, and Hip Hop. I wanted to explore what the Prince might look like in relation to these characters so I added him to each style with instructor permission.

Project 2 - Little Shop of Horrors

For this project, we were required to design at least one look for each main character. Another requirement of this project included designing two stages of Audrey II and a technical drawing of how one of the puppets functions. I chose to challenge myself by casting the show from performers I have worked with in the past and trying to render their likeness on the designs.
